Key-person insurance is a life (and sometimes disability) policy that a business owns on an essential employee or owner. If that person dies or becomes disabled, the business receives the benefit to cover lost revenue, recruiting costs, or debt obligations.
A buy-sell agreement sets the terms for buying out an owner’s share if they die, become disabled, or leave. Life insurance provides the cash to complete the purchase, so surviving owners don’t have to take on debt and the departing owner’s family receives fair value.
Common approaches include a multiple of the person’s compensation, their contribution to profits, or the cost to replace them. We will help you estimate an appropriate amount based on your situation.
A short call is enough to see where you are protected and where you are exposed.
